For our third picture in this collection the background is again the gatehouse to Charlcote Manor. The car is the Armstrong Siddeley, Limousine, long wheelbase, 25hp, purchased on 22nd May 1939 by no less a person than the then U.K. Prime Minister. Neville Chamberlain FRS, MP.
We have profiled this car before in jottings. If you scroll back to our 30th March 2023 entry you can refresh your memory concerning the car and the owner.
This time by happy chance we have been entrusted with the safe keeping of two, now very rare items, which are closely related to the 25hp cars of the same period. First the ‘Owners’ Maintenance Manual as supplied with each car. Note the line showing the chassis numbers which indicates this book covers a remarkably few 50 cars. The chassis number of P.M. Chamberlain’s car is XU 18358, making it the 18th car in the batch.
The second item, the ‘Fitters Symptomator’ considerably predates the computerised systems diagnostics used by the fitters of today, but probably gave the same satisfaction when a correct diagnosis was made.
To close this jotting we have another fine photograph of CGN 1, Prime Minister Chamberlain’s car.
